Keeping Expecting Moms Cool During Summer Pregnancy Featured

15 Aug

Summers are known for bringing about highest temperatures of the year, but what they also bring are the highest birth rates of the year. According to statistics released by the CDC, the top three months women give birth are July, August and September – and has been for the last three years.  During this time of the year, it’s important to reach out to pregnant women and let them know what to expect, how to have a healthy pregnancy and how to keep cool during the summer!

A few tips for expectant moms in the summer:

  • Drink up!
  • Stay cool -- research has shown that high levels of heat during the first trimester may cause birth defects.
  • Protect your environment -- avoid paint fumes, don’t mix cleaning products, plan outdoor activities for days with low ozone levels and don’t use gas ovens or burners to heat a home.
  • Get ready for baby! – talk with your doctor about what happens after delivery, such as cord blood banking, keeping baby cool, etc.
