Online Shopping Made Easier Featured

25 Jul

TheFind, with Internet Explorer, recently announced a collaborative effort to reimagine online shopping, as consumers increasingly shift to using a multitude of devices to research and buy things online and off. The result is Glimpse, an HTML5 web site that seamlessly integrates two key apps from TheFind -- Catalogue, its paper catalog app for tablets, and Glimpse, its social shopping app for Facebook.

“Working with Internet Explorer has been a great collaboration. Together, we have been focused on changing online shopping to deliver to consumers a rich and compelling experience that is driven by social discovery and curation,” said Ramneek Bhasin, VP and GM of Mobile at TheFind. “By bringing store catalogs to Glimpse, we have done just that. Glimpse will run seamlessly across all tablet and desktop platforms. This is just the beginning of what true ‘social discovery’ is all about.”

Glimpse now combines the social sharing and shopping capabilities of its Facebook app with Catalogue, the company’s popular paper catalog tablet app which has been downloaded more than one million times in little more than a year. In joining the two to create an immersive website, TheFind is adding another layer of curation to Glimpse’s social shopping experience, in the form of professionally assembled store catalogs. Catalogs on Glimpse are social, in that the entire catalog or individual items can be Liked, commented on, pulled into personal collections assembled by users, and shared across consumers’ social networks.

In addition, the partnership effort shows off the power of HTML5 as a development platform across the web and mobile devices.  “With a small development team, we were able to quickly build this new HTML5 experience that looks and feels as rich as a native application,” continued TheFind’s Bhasin.  The site is now featured on Internet Explorer’s ‘Beauty of the Web’ showcase of amazing HTML5 reference sites.

“We are very excited to partner with TheFind to show off how the power of HTML5 can help reimagine shopping,” said Ryan Gavin, General Manager, Internet Explorer.  “Traditionally books, magazines and catalogs have been a flat, 1D experience on the web.  Today we’re excited to change that - Glimpse delivers an immersive browse-and-discover experience for your favorite brands with some really compelling features, like page-flip, that make Glimpse stand apart when it comes to online shopping.

IE and TheFind are also releasing a free, open-source framework for HTML5 page-flip, giving developers the code to create more beautiful books online.
