How to Unplug Over the Weekend Featured

29 Jan

As hard as it may seem, it is crucial to unplug and take a step back from your gadgets. In the ever digital world in which we live, many people become obsessed with their phones and even sleep with them. Of course they are necessary for your day-to-day life, but we also think that it is crucial to unplug, especially on the weekends. Here are some tips to help you kick-off a tech-free weekend.

1. Put it away: The first step is to simply put away your phone. After you do that, you will have to walk away. It will be very difficult at first, but you will have to assert and challenge yourself to not pick it up.

2. Keep yourself busy: To keep your mind off of your phone, keep yourself busy. Take a class, read, run errands, etc.

3. Keep a media journal: Since unplugging is very hard, we think it is important to chart those thoughts down as well as document how long it takes you to be without your phone. This can also be a way to document your progress.

4. Consider other media: We know that your phone is not just the issue. Consider shutting down your video games, tablets, computers, and TV for a full weekend media detox.

5. Enjoy it! Although it may be hard at first, you will love having tech downtime where you don't have to check your email, social media, or the latest news story. Enjoy this time and reveal in how rare it is in your day-to-day life.
